Party Time: a community effort
September 23, 2007 by Organic Mama
With banners flicking in the wind and swords and shields a plenty, today we do war.
It’s Monkeyface’s tenth birthday party and in 75 degrees and under a clear blue sky, armed with foam and duct tape boffers and plastic basket shields, we will organize silly battles for small people to jump into the fray of battle most frenetic and have loads of fun We’ll be giving all attendees a how to and how NOT to fight with boffers talk, but mostly, we’ll stand back, pick the “dead” ones off the field and direct them to the resurrection table (wait 30 seconds before jumping back in!) , and take a few thousand photos.
The back field of our property is the battle ground; until yesterday it was overgrown with the russet grass of summer’s end. We would have mowed (mown?) it had our lawn mower/tractor not given up the ghost. Blessed as we are with lovely neighbors, all I had to do was ask; SJ half a mile away put his tractor onto a hitched flatbed, brought it over and took care of the monstrous grass that would certainly have been an impediment to a successful battle. I paid him in hugs and homemade pickles. Grinning, he said he would come and do battle today. Truly, lovely neighbors.
Have a lovely Sunday!!

“mowed? mown?” That’s sort of like…. rewind.. rewound… remind… remound?
How fun! Wish I could be there!
It was PHENOMENAL. The kids never seemed to tire of the mock battle, the craft of painting white plastic baskets as shields was a success and the weather could not have been nicer. Our attendees battled ferociously, giggling and growling all the while. I am BEAT, but flying on the fumes of a great party.
Val, the English teacher in me was thrown a little by the fact the “correct answer” did not immediately present and I didn’t take the time to look it up….
