Today George Carlin died of heart failure.  He was 71.  A brilliant, caustic, fabulously foul mouthed critic of our culture, our language and our hypocrisies, Carlin was too young to be taken from this world.
He will be missed.

Well, I survived the interview for the long-term sub position (for teaching freshman and sophs in 4 different preps) I’d been frazzling myself over and you know what? I think it went well. I was asked a few questions I for which I had not prepared anything , so I found myself inserting my [...]

1. In less than a week, my daughters start camp way up there in the back of beyond Ontario, surrounded by lake, bugs and lots and lots of lovely Canadians. In my 13 year old’s case, there are also boys that she will undoubtedly start to see through a slightly altered perspective than she [...]

Holy Moley, Spazzwoman!

Yesterday at Barnes and Noble I inadvertently performed minor surgery.

I’ve been waiting to hear about a possibility of a short-term sub position over at the highschool where I interned and learned today [...]

We’ve been in damn near drought conditions for weeks, so the rain up here in the northeast is entirely welcome, although not precisely conducive to pretty pictures of flowers. Or photos of pretty flowers. Whatever.
Fortunately, I took these shots BEFORE the rain.
These poppies with their unearthly, practically  indescribable color are what I look forward [...]

The Press of Humanity

Yesterday I went along with my youngest daughter on her school trip down, down on a long drive on back roads to Boston so we could walk along the Freedom Trail.
Days before, we’d nervously eyed the weather forecasts, as an 80% chance of rain seemed to doom the trip, but Dave, Monkeyface’s fifth grade [...]
